About The Course
This course is designed to be taught in conjunction with the PADI Public Safety Diver course and will allow the student to participate in their role as a PSD Surface Support Specialist. The PSD Surface Support Specialist plays a vital role on a Public Safety Dive Team. The divers’ wellbeing, the team’s effectiveness and the mission’s success all hinges on their ability to do their job. With this in mind, it is imperative that the PSD Surface Support Specialist obtain a solid foundation in Public Safety Diving. This course can also be taught separately from the Public Safety Diver course if necessary.
What You Will Learn
The fun part is the challenge of working as a team to accomplish a common goal and then the excitement when the goal has been accomplished and the team has safely recovered the target. And finally, the realization that you were an integral part of that dive operation!
You will learn
- Search and recovery dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques and how to deal with potential problems
- How to interview witnesses
- How to document the dive operation
- And most importantly how to keep your entire dive team safe
Step 1. Independent Study
PADI eLearning makes it easy to fit scuba lessons into a busy schedule. Learn about scuba diving principles and terminology whenever, wherever it's convenient for you.
Study offline, or online using a computer or mobile device. Connect with your instructor whenever you have a question.

Step 2. At The Dive Centre
During your orientation session at the UK Diving Academy Dive Centre you will get to meet your instructor and be fitted with the very latest dive gear to use during your course.

You will then receive an email asking for some more details to get you registered and also offering some help to get you started with your online materials. To enroll in the PADI PSD Surface Support Specialist course, you must be:
- 18 years or older
- An Emergency First Responder or have the equivalent certification from another agency
- You do NOT have to be a diver to take this course
Scuba diving requires a minimum level of health and fitness. Chronic health conditions, certain medications and/or recent surgery may require you to get written approval from a physician before diving.
Avoid disappointment, download and review the Diver Medical Form to ensure you won’t need a physician’s approval to dive before enrolling in a scuba course. Instructors, divemasters and dive shop staff are not physicians and should not be asked for medical advice; only medical professionals can give medical clearance to dive.

We will provide all your core scuba diving equipment during your course including:
- Mask & Snorkel

- Dry Suit & Undersuit (If Required)
During your course, we will include Free rental of all of the above core dive gear items only. You will be required to collect your core dive gear prior to the open water training dives from us.

Join Our Dive Club
Keep diving in your local area by joining our dive club. Our dive club members are all active fivers in the local area. The dive club is open to anyone - whatever agency you trained with, whatever level of diver you are. All you need is a love of diving!
We also organise several holidays each year, UK and abroad, as well as shore dives off the UK coast and regular dive weekends to Vobster Quay. On top of all that there is also regular social events and activities including paintball, 'dry dives' in recompression chambers and regular club meetings.
